Join Sonning Common’s 10th On Your Bike!
The countdown to our tenth anniversary ride on Sunday 24th April has begun.
On Your Bike 2016 was launched today at a special assembly at Sonning Common Primary School.
The ride’s founder, Penny Snowden, told children about the history of the ride and said, “More than 5,000 people of all ages have taken part over the years, cycling over 60,000 miles between them, which is further than twice around the world!”
The first time Arlo Carey, 11, did On Your Bike, he had a broken arm and pedalled on a tag-a-long bike behind his Dad. He’s cycled all 3 routes since. “The first time I cycled 20 miles,” he said “I was in year 2.” The children heard how Arlo is now a keen racing cyclist. Rhys Beaumont, 10 and Isla Hallett, 6, also talked about their experiences of On Your Bike.
Jason Acock from AWCycles told the children why the shop sponsors On Your Bike. “We are a family run community cycle shop, and we want adults and children to be inspired by cycling.” he said “Cycling is really healthy. We are cycling nuts!”
AWCycles is, once again, kindly donating a bike which all riders have a chance of winning if they register to ride before 9pm on 10th April 2016.
This year 100% of all entry fees and monies raised in 2016 will be shared between Sonning Common Primary School, Sue Ryder and the Cardiac Care Unit at the Royal Berks.
