Reading FC legend Ady Williams to start 2016 ride

Reading FC legend and BBC Radio Berkshire Sports Presenter, Ady Williams, will be giving riders wise words of encouragement at the start of On Your Bike 2016 on Sunday 24th April.

Ady may have retired from professional football, but he’s still passionate about fitness. He’s a keen cyclist, runner and a regular at the gym.

“Both my children were encouraged to get on bikes at an early age, as it’s important to try to create a fitness habit for life,” said Ady. “What’s great about On Your Bike is it’s something the whole family can do together, whatever their age or ability.”

“I’ve always enjoyed watching the big tours, particularly the Tour de France. I’ve had some spectacular trips abroad, cycling the steep and sunny Spanish hills with my mates. Personally I love the challenge of going up hill, probably because I’m a bit of a coward going down hill at speed!”

Ady is local to the area and has run miles along many of the roads that make up On Your Bike’s three routes, while training for 10k runs and half marathons.

“It’s always an honour to be involved with grass roots sporting events, raising money for good local causes,” said Ady. “I can’t wait to wave the riders off.”

OYB founder, Penny Snowden, said “We’re thrilled Ady’s taking the time to start our tenth anniversary ride. He’s a great role model, but also an entertaining after dinner speaker and MC, so he’s the perfect person to inspire our riders as they embark on their 6, 12 or 20 mile cycles. I know lots of children taking part are Royals fans and listen to Ady presenting the sport on BBC Radio Berkshire, so they’ll be excited.”

Register before 9pm on 10th April for the chance to win a bike, donated by AWCycles. Entry fees: £5 per person in advance, or £8 on the day.
